Vogue Williams cuts a dash on horseback to launch Catriona Hanly’s Lough Rynn Tweeds

Irish Designer Catriona Hanly  | Autumn / Winter 2016’17

For Autumn Winter 2016’17, designer Catriona Hanly gives heritage tweeds a high-fashion makeover with an explosion of colours and pastels.  The collection is strong, noble, structured and powerful.  The story is inspired by the great estates of the 20th century … with an undercurrent of rebellion.  Each piece is timelessly chic and inclusively ageless and is worn with patrician pride, maverick individuality & a hint of attitude.

Catriona Hanly’s Autumn Winter 2016’17 collection explores the heritage and diversity of tweed and injects new life and energy into this iconic cloth.  The fabric has experienced a renaissance and now carries with it a certain sophistication adopted by many subculture movements.  Catriona is utterly passionate about fabrics and this is a consistent trait across all collections so her work with tweeds was both exciting and evocative for her.  The designer’s signature collars and cuffs detailing are once again evident in these timeless heritage pieces that make a unique style statement season after season.

Opulent velvet lapels and side stripes, luxurious faux fur detailing, fringed trims and decorative buttons add to the aristocratic elegance of the collection whilst classic cuts, tailored jackets and structured dresses bring a gentrified chic.  A selection of plain weave tweeds from Donegal and French Herringbone tweeds were carefully chosen to set the perfect tone for this collection.  The mood is allusive to a titled heritage and high society fashions worn for a variety of occasions at country houses, lavish parties and sporting events.

An air of rebellion undulates at the centre of the story and once again the edginess displayed in the designer’s previous collections comes to the fore.  Bright colours, bold material pairings and contrasting patterns are central to the style. The cloth is given a whole new lease of life as colours are reshuffled and remixed with combinations of petrol blues and emerald greens and shocks of deep purple electrify the looks and set the vibe.

Dresses are structured yet feminine and beg to be worn with buttery soft leather gloves. Many of the styles have attachable faux fur collars and arm bands to take the wearer from day to evening.  Midi lengths unfurl in sweeping flourish of fur lending the look an adorable charm whilst the classic two-piece suit is reinterpreted to bring both power and pleasure in equal measure.   Catriona Hanly’s collections are available from the Design Centre in Dublin, Kalu in Naas, Co Kildare, Olori Boutique in Cork and select boutiques nationwide and at www.catrionahanly.com.
